About Phil
For the last twenty years, I’ve worked to help people succeed at what they believe in. Since 1996, my corporate clients have included health care providers, scientific institutions, sustainable real estate developers, retailers, and others. The common thread among these clients is a self-knowledge of why they’re in business.
This “purpose-driven” theme also extends to my government and non-profit clients including the US Fish & Wildlife Service, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and numerous regional human services agencies.
Prior to my work as a marketing and management consultant, I worked for ten years as an environmental engineer. From 1989 to 1999 I helped the US EPA and numerous state agencies with environmental compliance, research and enforcement. I also worked with international firms including Honda, Allied Signal, Union Carbide, Champion Paper, and General Motors as they made sincere efforts to reduce the environmental impact of their manufacturing.
I’m an idealist with a practical bent. My work comes from the heart but I work with a full appreciation of economics and human nature. An MBA (Kenan Flagler Business School, UNC – Chapel Hill) and an ScB in engineering (Brown University) provided the basics of my analytical toolkit. But the greatest part of what I know comes from time spent working with people and companies in the pursuit of something good.
As a consultant, I brings a generalist’s point of view to discovering his clients’ key needs and the things they need to move from where they are to where they want to be. When clients need resources beyond my expertise (as they often do), I rely several long-term partnerships with online marketing specialists, public relations professionals, graphic designers, printers, IT specialists and other experts who can help my clients make progress. To be useful and to enjoy the trip. That’s why I’m here.
